Located near the border of Nepal, West Sikkim’s Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary, also known as Versay Rhododendron Sanctuary, is nestled in the Singalila Range. This sanctuary perfectly separates the West Bengal by the Rambong River in the south. With an area covering 104 sq. km, this biodiverse spot is excellent if you want to explore and bask in the prettiest rhododendrons you have ever seen.
With the onset of spring, the entire Barsey is swaying in abundant vibrant rhododendrons! This sanctuary has almost 600 sorts of rhododendrons and some of the varieties are Arboreum, Barbatum, Prunus Rufa, Pyrus Foliolosa and many more. You would be the luckiest if you plan to visit Sikkim during the springtime as these flowers are in bloom from March to May and till monsoon takes over.
July is one of the most bountiful months because the entire territory is lush and green. This is due to the rainy season and July being the wettest month here. For winters, the highest altitude of this sanctuary receives snowfall and the weather is pleasant for the months.
