This Sunday, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani invited actor Sohum Shah to enjoy an unlimited Rajasthani and Gujarati feast at Shree Thaker Bhojanalay in Kalbadevi, Mumbai. Over the 36-item thali, Sohum talked about his inner foodie, favourite place to eat, journey from Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar to Mumbai, and love for Shah Rukh Khan. Scroll on to see how it all went down.
Sohum Shah Enjoys An Authentic Rajasthani Feast
After making a name for himself as an entrepreneur, Sohum Shah shifted to Mumbai to work in the film industry. Since then, he has gained critical acclaim for his work in Tumbbad and OTT series like Maharani and Dahaad. In fact, he even produced and worked in the National Award-winning film Ship of Theseus. But when he sat down with Kamiya Jani to enjoy an authentic Rajasthani feast, he showed a side of his life that not many people know about.
“Mera DNA jo hai na, woh bhukkad hai, khaane-peene ka shaukeen, foodie aadmi hun main. Yeah baatein bahut hoti hai ki aapne Tumbbad kaise banai, par koi khaane ki baat nahi karta,” he said after we sat down at Shree Thaker Bhojanalay in Kalbadevi.
Sohum Shah spoke about his Sri Ganganagar roots and how despite being in Rajasthan, the place has a very rural Punjab vibe to it, thanks to its geographical location. He also revealed that his acting guru is none other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Sohum spoke fondly about how the ace actor stayed and taught him acting for a month since he had no clue about acting. He also spoke about his love for Shah Rukh Khan and how he admires the actor’s confidence and connection with the audience.
Reveals His Foodie Side & Favourite Place To Eat
Sohum Shah is a self-confessed foodie! Growing up in Sri Ganganagar, he had a great inclination towards Punjabi food. He shared that, unlike cities like Jaipur, you won’t find dal batti in Sri Ganganagar. Instead, you will find some of the best chole kulche there. The chole kulche in Sri Ganganagar is best enjoyed by adding kachore in the chole, along with some lemon juice, green chillies, and a dash of salt, shared Sohum.
He also enjoys chole bhature from a shop called Saini, samosa, and rewari ki barfi when he is back home. Like a true foodie, he also has a special place where he relishes food the most. Sohum Shah vouches for the missi roti and paneer pasanda sabzi combo at the Pagoda Restaurant in Sri Ganganagar.
