“Some May Get Into Trouble,” Said Zomato On Its Decision To Scrap ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ Green Uniform

Just a day after Zomato decided to launch a separate fleet with different uniforms for its ‘Pure Veg Mode’, the company decided to roll back this decision. In his latest post on X (formerly Twitter), Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has updated people on this decision. He said that while the ‘Pure Veg’ mode will continue on the app, the “on-ground segregation of this fleet using the colour green” will be removed. This move comes amid the public outcry that Zomato got for announcing this segregation.

Zomato Decides To Rollback Its Green Uniform Amid Public Outcry

While many people appreciated Zomato’s initiative of ‘Pure Veg Mode’ and ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ for their delivery, people online found several flaws in this new feature. Amid this outcry, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has tweeted about the removal of the green uniform in the ‘Pure Veg Mode’. In his post, he said that while a separate fleet for the vegetarian mode will continue, Zomato will not have a different on-ground uniform for its delivery riders. As per the new update, all Zomato’s delivery riders “will wear the colour red.”

So, what caused Zomato to take back this decision? Well, Deepinder found many people pointing out how a separate on-ground uniform can be troubling for people living in RWA societies and apartments and even make them the centre of attention on several occasions. They also said these separate uniforms could lead to a ban on the entry of red-uniform delivery partners in such complexes. This would be very troubling for people ordering non-vegetarian food. Furthermore, many Netizens even called this move “modern-day casteism.”

Addressing this concern of Zomato users, the company decided to roll back its decision. Deepinder mentioned this in his post and said, “We now realise that even some of our customers could get into trouble with their landlords, and that would not be a nice thing if that happened because of us.”
