According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, this move will help generate more revenue while also making motorists more disciplined. The Atal Setu stretches across 21.8 kilometres and cost a whopping ₹17,480 crore to build.

It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, on January 12, 2024. In order to monitor the traffic as well as the motorists, CCTV cameras and radars will be installed. These will be a part of the Intelligent Traffic Management System or the ITMS.

The State Transport Department will allot the contract of managing, maintaining and operating the ITMS to a single agency. If reports are to go by, the appointment of the bidder is in its final stages. The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority or the MMRDA is expected to finish the process in the next two weeks.

As per officials, the rule of penalising motorists for breaking the rules up until now was not done. This is because of the Lok Sabha Elections. Now, however, strict action will be taken against rule-breakers.
