Southern Railways Restore & Resume Services On Kavaraipettai Section After Mysuru-Darbhanga Express Derailment

The Southern Railways was able to resume train services on the Kavaraipettai section after the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express derailment on October 11. As per reports, the train services were restored in “record time” on Saturday. Several trains were rescheduled and diverted on Friday and Saturday due to the incident.

Train traffic resumed in the Kavaraipettai section after the track was restored on Saturday. The Southern Railways took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the recommencement of the train services on the line after the derailment of the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express on October 11.

On Friday evening, the train collided with a stationary goods train in Tamil Nadu’s Kavaraipettai. The serious accident ended up injuring several people and hampering services in this section. Now, as per the Railways’ latest update, “Train No. 12434 Nizamuddin – Dr MGR Chennai Rajdhani Express passed through Kavaraipettai Railway Station UP Mainline” at 9:05 PM on Saturday.

As per a Financial Express report, services have resumed on the UP Mainline, while restoration work on the downline is still ongoing. More updates on the restoration work are awaited.

Train Collision Cause Derailment Of 12 Coaches

On the evening of October 11, the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a stationary freight train on the Ponneri-Kavaraipettai section. The accident took place around 8:30 PM on Friday and caused the derailment of 12 coaches at the railway station.

The Southern Railway promptly responded to the incident and started rescue operations for all passengers. Several passengers sustained injuries due to the impact and were immediately taken to the nearby hospital. The injured were also offered ex-gratia payments. Thankfully, no casualties were reported in the accident. A high-level inquiry was launched to know more about the incident and restoration work began on Friday night itself.

According to Financial Express, Southern Railways arranged buses for stranded passengers of the derailed train. They were transported to nearby stations. The following morning, two EMU Specials were dispatched with passengers Ponneri and Chennai Central as well.
