Great news from the neighbouring country! SriLankan Airlines has now welcomed its first wide-body aircraft in seven years. The Airbus A330-200 has finally arrived from Paris at Bandaranaike International Airport. Its in-built amenities promise to enhance the overall passenger experience for those flying in and out of Sri Lanka.
SriLankan Airlines Welcomes A New Wide-Body Aircraft
SriLankan Airlines recently welcomed an Airbus A330-200 from Paris. It is their first wide-body aircraft in seven years. The aircraft now joins their fleet of 23 others. This new addition, bearing registration number 4R-ALT, comes with comfortable seating and advanced amenities. The Airbus A330-200 performed a low fly-past over Colombo and Katunayake before touching down at Bandaranaike International Airport on June 5. With this new aircraft, the airline aims to expand its fleet, open doors to long-haul international routes and ease flexibility.

As per the press release, Sarath Ganegoda, Chairman of SriLankan Airlines, stated, “This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for SriLankan Airlines, both operationally and in shaping our long-term fleet strategy. The addition of this aircraft enhances our capacity to meet the growing demand, while strengthening our contribution to national tourism goals. As Sri Lanka continues to ascend as a top-tier travel destination, this aircraft will play a key role in connecting global travellers to Sri Lanka.”

Adding to this, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Group CFO of the airline, Yasantha Dissanayake, said, “This is the first wide-body aircraft to be inducted into the fleet after a lapse of seven years. It will allow us to expand our reach in both existing and new markets, offering improved flight times, better connectivity and more direct services to the country, whilst enhancing cargo capacity in support of Sri Lanka’s export trade. The aircraft also features in-flight amenities that meet the expectations of today’s traveller and provides a more comfortable flying experience.”
This new addition to SriLankan Airlines has several new features designed to improve the overall travel and passenger experience. The wide-body aircraft includes wireless in-flight entertainment and USB charging ports at every seat. Plus, it also features a two-class configuration with 18 business class seats and 242 economy class seats.

The aircraft will run on two Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines. It will serve both long and short-haul routes. With this, SriLankan Airlines now has 13 narrow-body and 10 wide-body aircraft, including this recent Airbus.
