The Ambedkar International Centre (AIC), which is being built on a 13-acre site in Accokeek, Maryland, some 35 kilometers south of Washington, will unveil the statue. It is known as the Statue of Equality.

This statue, which the AIC claims is the largest representation of Babasaheb outside of India, is an important component of the Ambedkar Memorial being built at this facility.

Ambedkar accepted Buddhism on October 14, 1956. Ambedkarites commemorate October 14 as Dhamma Chakra Parivartan Din. Hence, on the same date, Maryland will unveil the tallest statue of Dr. Ambedkar.

The statue has been made by renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, who also created the Statue of Unity, a memorial to Sardar Patel that is located on an island in the Narmada River in Gujarat below the Sardar Sarovar Dam. (as per Times Travel)

The Ambedkarite movement and Ambedkar’s supporters are expected to attend in large numbers, not just from the United States but also from other countries, for the unveiling ceremony, according to the AIC. The memorial serves as a representation of equality and human rights and serves to spread Babasaheb’s beliefs and values. There will likely be visitors from several nations for the launching ceremony on October 14.

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who was born on April 14, 1891, was affectionately known by his admirers as Babasaheb. He served as the chairman of the Constituent Assembly’s Drafting Committee and was given the title “Architect of the Indian Constitution.”

He served in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s first government during the post-Independence era as Minister of Law and Justice. Ambedkar was a key figure in social movements that promoted the rights of untouchables and Dalits. (as per Times Travel)
