There have been a lot of complaints lately about crowded trains. One specific complaint detailed a passenger’s experience on an Indian Railways voyage, wherein, despite having a verified ticket, he was forced to stand the entire time.
Passenger With Confirmed Ticket Forced To Stand The Entire Journey
On the social media site X, Abhas Kumar Shrivastava wrote about his unpleasant experience. He recounted the first difficulties he had finding his way to his assigned seat on the packed Rourkela Intercity train. When Mr. Shrivastava arrived at his assigned seat, he saw that it was occupied by a pregnant lady.
Instead of asking her to get out of her seat, he chose to stay outside the train entrance for the entire two-hour ride. The unhappy passenger ironically thanked Indian Railways, IRCTC, and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on social media for making him stand even though he had a reserved ticket for the interstate train.
According to his post, the user had reserved a seat 4 days prior and got a confirmed ticket. Only after entering the train, he realised that he couldn’t reach his seat. Finally when he did reach, that is after an hour, he realised that a pregnant lady was sitting on his seat and stood at the gate for 2 hours.

He also posted a picture of a train coach filled with people in addition to his post. There was not much room for manoeuvring in the train’s passageway either.
Felt Like He Was In General Class
Mr Shrivastava said in the comments section that he had made a reservation for a seat in the second seater, or 2S class, which is a non-AC carriage that is frequently seen in daytime Intercity and Janshatabdi trains. However, he noted that it felt like he was in the General class because of how many people were going in his coach without tickets.
After reading several remarks in the comments area, it was suggested that Mr Shrivastava might have accidentally entered the incorrect bus based on the arrangement in his photo. He clarified that it appears that some are conflating the general coach with the one. These types of carriages are now seen on Odisha’s intercity trains, for an unknown cause.
Only a week earlier, another Indian Railways passenger had expressed worries about people without tickets boarding carriages meant for restricted passengers. A video that Swati Raj uploaded from her journey on the Mahananda Express showed the aisle of her first-class AC carriage crowded with men.
