In a strategic move to improve accessibility and connectivity in the remote regions of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has approved a new subsidised helicopter route. The new helicopter route will connect Jammu, Poonch, and Mendhar, with an additional option of a direct Jammu-Mendhar-Jammu route. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this new helicopter route in this region.
Subsidised Helicopter Service Approved On Jammu-Mendhar Route
The official communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs indicates that the proposal was meticulously examined in consultation with the Integrated Finance Department or the IFD. According to an article that was recently published by The Tribune, the department has expressed no objections to the proposed route.
This, thereby paved the way for enhanced transportation infrastructure in the area. The initiative stems from a proposal submitted by Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Secretary of the Civil Aviation Department in Jammu and Kashmir.
He highlighted the critical need to directly connect the remote Mendhar sector with Jammu. The primary objective of this subsidised helicopter service is to improve connectivity and accessibility in geographically challenging and isolated regions.
An official spokesperson elaborated that the Union Territory has been instructed to claim the subsidy from the Ministry of Home Affairs within the approved budget allocation. This development is part of a broader strategy to enhance transportation options in hard-to-reach areas of the region.

Other Helicopter Routes That Are Active In The Region
The newly approved route joins an existing network of subsidised helicopter services that already operate in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
These include routes such as Kishtwar-Sounder-Navapachi-Ishan-Kishtwar, Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch-Jammu, Jammu-Doda-Kishtwar-Jammu, Bandipora-Kanzalwan-Dawar-Niri-Bandipora, and Kupwara-Machil-Tangdhar-Keran-Kupwara.
This strategic expansion of helicopter services represents a significant step towards bridging geographical gaps and providing efficient transportation solutions for residents in remote mountainous regions.
By reducing travel time and improving accessibility, these subsidised routes are set to have a transformative impact on the socio-economic landscape of the area, facilitating easier movement for local communities, potentially boosting economic activities, and enhancing overall regional connectivity.
