Binsar Used To Be The Summer Capital Of The Chand Kings

Binsar is a place of historical importance too. It used to be the erstwhile summer capital of the Chand Kings. They ruled over the Kumaon region from the 11th to 18th centuries AD. In 1988, the town was established for the conservation of broad leaf oak forests of the Central Himalayan region.  Some locals believe that Binsar was named after the 16th-century Bineshwar Mahadev temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the most mesmerising regions in the Kumaon hills, standing in full glory with its stunning natural beauty.
