Surat Street Vendor Makes Pani Puri Shawarma With Mayo & Cheese; Netizens Ask, “Pani Kidhar Hai?”

Do you watch fusion street food videos from India and scream at your laptop and phone screens? If only street vendors could hear our shouts of agony and stop the atrocity! Yet another recent fusion dish has left us helpless. This time it’s Pani Puri Shawarma sold on the streets of Surat in Gujarat. Like many other viral street food dishes, this too has mayonnaise, cheese and Schezwan sauce!

Surat Has A Pani Puri Shawarma & It’s Nothing Like You’d Ever Imagine

Mohammed Futurewala often takes to X (formerly Twitter) to share atrocious fusion food dishes with Netizens. After shocking many with a video of Pune’s viral Idli Pattice, this time he schooled the Internet on Surat’s Pani Puri Shawarma. Reposting a video originally shared by @thegreatindianfoodie on Instagram, Futurewala shocked many with this fusion dish.

What’s funny is the X user’s fictional story tracing the origins of this Indo-Middle Eastern dish.@MFuturewala writes that Ismail a pani puri vendor from Surat travelled to Turkey. That’s when he came across shawarma. Captivated by its flavours, he returned to his home town to fuse the two cuisines and create the Pani Puri Shawarma. And that’s not all, soon, his innovative dish became a sensation and foodies flocked to try the “culinary marvel”.

Mayo, Cheese & Whatnot! Netizens Appalled

Let’s just say it’s sarcasm at its best! Because if you really watch the video from start to finish, we wonder if you’d ever want to have pani puri again or even shawarma for that matter. But don’t worry, we took one for the team. In the video, the vendor first takes shredded chicken pieces from the shawarma. Then, he adds thinly sliced cabbage, beetroot and fried potato slivers to the chicken. Next, he adds a big dollop of “mayonnaise chutney”, and a little Schezwan sauce and mixes the ingredients.

He adds this mixture inside crispy puris. And finishes it with mayonnaise, tomato ketchup and shredded cheese. After blow-torching the puris he serves a plate full of Pani Puri Shawarmas to his customers.

Netizens were quite shocked by this creation that no one asked for! Here are some of the funniest reactions to this unusual dish.
