Sushmita Sen’s Miss Universe 1994 Dinner Party In Mexico

While chatting about learning etiquette, Sushmita revealed that she was properly groomed only after winning the title of Miss Universe 1994! She recalled being in Mexico City’s Acapulco to celebrate her win with the head of state. The party had many prominent Mexican personalities and her 18-year-old self was the chief guest, accompanied by her travel manager, Barbara.

Sushmita told us that she was at the head of the table and was famished. She informed Barbara about her growling hunger and asked her to commence the feast somehow. Sushmita’s post-Miss Universe dinner in Mexico was a seven-course meal. Multiple glasses, forks, knives and plates were in front of her and as an 18-year-old, she felt helpless as to begin with which utensil. The actor revealed, at that moment, the Tourism Minister of Mexico, sitting on her left politely guided her to use knives from the right-hand side.

She now had a direction but didn’t know which knife to pick up. So, she further asked about it and made sure she picked the correct one. Sushmita picked the knife closest to her and said, “Bon appétit.” The actor barely touched her plate when everyone at the table attacked their meals and relished it soon enough!

This experience made her realise that she ought to learn about table manners. Therefore, she reached out to the Miss Universe Organisation as she “felt out of place”. They enrolled her for a 2-day course on etiquette and she picked up everything she needed to know. Woah, that is quite a story, Sushmita!
