Gone are the days when railway stations looked decades-old and lacked proper facilities and modern technology. With several infrastructure projects underway, Indian cities are improving their railway stations and making travel more convenient for passengers. On October 11, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated five redeveloped Amrit Bharat stations in Tamil Nadu.

PM Modi Inaugurates Amrit Bharat Stations In Tamil Nadu

On Sunday, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated five redeveloped Amrit Bharat stations in Tamil Nadu. These stations are Ambasamudram, Palani, Namakkal, Paramakkudi and Vellore Cantonment. As per The Indian Express, the stations have been redeveloped at a total cost of over ₹70 crore.

What Changed At These Stations?

1. Ambasamudram Railway Station

This station now has a renovated entrance, covered parking, improved waiting halls, platform shelters, a six-metre-wide foot overbridge, two lifts and accessible booking counters. It was redeveloped at a cost of ₹13 crore.

2. Palani Railway Station

The redeveloped railway station now has a new entrance arch, covered parking, an upgraded waiting hall, lifts and better passenger information systems. The redevelopment cost around ₹20 crore.

3. Namakkal Railway Station

This station now has an expanded station building, an executive lounge, improved parking and upgraded platforms. It also features tactile tiles, LED lighting and a new foot overbridge with lifts. The project cost ₹17 crore.

4. Paramakkudi Railway Station

The Paramakkudi Railway Station now has wider vehicle lanes, a separate pedestrian pathway, covered parking, a new waiting hall, upgraded toilets and a foot overbridge. The station also features local art and cultural elements. The redevelopment cost ₹14 crore.

5. Vellore Cantonment Railway Station

The redeveloped station now has an improved entrance, better parking, an upgraded waiting hall, a reserved lounge and a retiring room. For passenger convenience, it also has coach guidance displays, train information boards and public announcement systems. The redevelopment cost ₹8 crore.

Also, the new railway line was built at a cost of ₹550 crore. The 23-km railway line connects Karaikal with the Mayiladuthurai-Tiruvarur railway corridor. PM Modi also inaugurated three railway flyovers built at a cost of ₹120 crore. These flyovers will ease traffic jams near railway crossings in Coimbatore and nearby areas.
