Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai wraps up 2023 in style with loads of remarkable achievements to remember. It made new technological advancements and maintained a strong commitment to sustainability. With state-of-the-art technology and first-rate services, CSMIA has demonstrated its worth once more and cemented its place as the aviation sector’s leader.

Mumbai airport maintains the highest standards of security and safety for both employees and passengers year after year. By successfully completing its significant re-carpeting project for Runway 14/32, CSMIA demonstrated its unwavering commitment to quality and increased overall operational efficiency. 

Additionally, “Taxiway Z ” was introduced, representing the CSMIA’s attempt to significantly reduce carbon emissions and aircraft entry and exit times. By introducing Taxiway Z, CSMIA established itself as the pioneer in the Asian market for providing a versatile apron. 

In addition, CSMIA became the first airport in Asia to have a Disabled Aircraft Recovery Kit (DARK) equipped with high-pressure lifting bags. DARK strengthens CSMIA’s dedication to safety and security. It guarantees an excellent and effective recovery procedure for even the biggest commercial aircraft.

November 2023 proved to be a remarkable month in both the domestic and foreign domains. With 167,132 people passing through CSMIA on November 25, it was the busiest day of the month in terms of passenger volume.

2D Barcode Readers, Awards & More

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the traveller experience, CSMIA placed 2D barcode readers at Terminals 1 and 2’s entry gates. This expedited the admission process and guaranteeing a hassle-free journey. At Terminal 2, the airport also installed a state-of-the-art parking guidance system. 

CSMIA continues to be at the forefront of sustainability activities as it works towards becoming net-zero by 2029. The airport was named the ‘Best Sustainable Airport of the Year’ by ASSOCHAM. It was awarded for its dedication to being among the first to completely phase out single-use plastic. 

The launch of Uber Green, the company’s premier electric vehicle service, reinforces CSMIA’s commitment to environmentally beneficial transportation choices. CSMIA’s dedication to sustainability is further demonstrated by its coveted Platinum Rating in the highly regarded Green Airports Recognition (GAR) Programme 2023 by the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific. 

The airport is the third in the world, the first in India, and the second in the Asia-Pacific area to be awarded this honor. ACI’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards have honoured CSMIA’s dedication to quality with accolades such as ‘Best Airport with over 40 million passengers’ for the Asia Pacific region in 2022.
