Telangana: ₹1.32 Lakh Worth Adulterated Ginger-Garlic Paste Confiscated, Raising Serious Food Adulteration Issues

In addition to conducting inspections at the Magic Ginger-Garlic Paste unit in Ricca Bazar, the commissioner’s task force and the city police in Secunderabad, Telangana, raided a ginger-garlic paste production facility in Khammam District and confiscated 960 kg of spurious paste valued at ₹1.32 lakh. This is regarded as a serious case of food adulteration.

Raid At Telangana’s Ginger-Garlic Paste Production Unit

Following the instructions of Telangana State Food Safety Commissioner RV Karnan and the Task Force team, which included food inspectors P Rohit Reddy, P Swathi, P Manoj Kumar, and B Ratan Rao and was headed by zonal assistant food controller V Jyotirmayi, the raid was carried out, as reported by The Times of India.

Numerous infractions have been reported at the Magic Ginger and Garlic paste production facility, including the absence of a Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence, label errors, and the omission of information such as batch numbers, the FSCI logo, repacking, location, and accurate packaging unit specifications.

Authorities believe that inappropriate ginger-garlic paste storage near chemicals and detergents could cause cross-contamination and emit an unpleasant odour. There have been prior reports of similar events involving tainted and counterfeit foods.

What Is Food Adulteration?

Food adulteration is the deliberate act of hampering the quality of food by adding or ommitting ingredients or by giving false information about it. Mislabeling food or concealing subpar quality in packaging, eliminating valuable components, mixing inferior ingredients, or lying about the food’s origin in order to boost demand are some examples.

Often done to increase profits or bulk, food adulteration can lead to major health problems, such as diarrhoea, giddiness, joint pain, and disruptions in the neurological system, kidneys, liver, and lungs. To guarantee that consumers in India are receiving safe food, the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954, was created.
