The incessant rains, heavy floods have caused an overwhelming loss of human lives and homes in Telangana Since the last few days. As many as 30 people passed away after heavy rains in various parts of Hyderabad since October 14. The showers under the impact of Bay of Bengal crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast and triggered flash floods in several areas of Telangana. Telangana: A Story Of Tragic Floods, Loss Of Human Lives & Homes
The heavy floods in Hyderbad led to the demise of 30 people till date. The floods accompanied by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has turned into a nightmare for the citizens of Telangana. Streets are filled with submerged cars and the floods have destroyed buildings.
The heavy floods destroyed 20,540 houses in 122 localities across Hyderabad. The homes which took years to build and housed thousands of memories are now left flooded with nothing but gravel left. And people, have nowhere left to go.
The overflowing nalas have washed away people and some are getting electrocuted due to the incessant floods. Walls collapsed and a huge boulder came crashing down, killing 8 people and a newborn child at Chandryangutta.
The Telangana state government declared a holiday for private and government institutions on October 14 and 15 to ensure the safety of its citizens. The government called together a meeting to review the measures taken to combat the floods.
Help came in large numbers when people from several low lying areas gave out SOS calls. The army took part in rescue ops helping over 600 people and locating them to relief camps. The civic body provided food and set up around 60 relief camps accommodating 684 people and gave food to 1.5 lakh people.
These are tragic times, and all we can do is hope and pray for Telangana to come out strong. People in the state and coming together to help each other during these tough times. And it is heartening to see this.
