In this special Kanpur edition of Tere Gully Mein, we got a chance to roam the vibrant streets of UP with none other than Kapil Kanpuriya. Known for his relatable and humorous content, he made us try chole bhature from Rajkumar Kachehri Wale, samosas from Pappu Samosa, Thaggu Ke Laddoo, and so much more. The episode also had a fun segment where we asked him to add his signature Kanpuriya style to iconic Bollywood dialogues.
We Played A Slang Game With Kapil Kanpuriya
Our Tere Gully Mein episode kicked off with us asking Kapil what he thinks is the most special thing about Kanpur. He replied, “Yaha logo ke andar tension nahi hai.” (People here are tension-free). Since no episode is complete without food, we headed to the decades-old Rajkumar Kachehri Wale to relish their famous Chole Bhature. But our food trail didn’t end there. Between conversations about the city, we also visited Pappu Samosa, a small yet iconic shop known for its variety of samosas: paneer samosa, aloo samosa, and even meetha or sweet samosas! Imagine that!
We then played a fun game with him where we asked him to translate iconic Bollywood dialogues in his signature Kanpuriya style. Our first line was, “Main Kanpuriya hu, main style se rehta hu,” (I am from Kanpur, and I live in style) to which he said, “Bhaiya, hum Kanpuriya hai, hum chauvat rehte hai.”
Another line was, “Ek thappad lagaunga na, zindagi bhar yaad rakhega.” (If I slap you once, you will remember it for life), which he translated humorously to, “Ek kantaap maare do dibba me udhar ke giryo.”
Our next line, “Ek baar jo maine commitment kar li, toh main apne aap ki bhi nahi sunta,” (Once I have made a commitment, I don’t even listen to myself) was translated as, “Ek baar bolte hai, full and final hojata hai.” For more hilarious translations like these, you’ll have to watch this segment yourself!
A Walk Through His Life
Kapil shared many interesting anecdotes about Kanpur and its people. He spoke about staying true to himself and creating content that feels relatable to many. And since he is so popular, it’s clear he’s doing something right. After this, we took a walk around Ganga Bairaj, a scenic spot in Kanpur famous for its scenic views of the River Ganga.
Kapil shared that he had a traditional arranged marriage since he didn’t have a girlfriend at the time and trusted his mother’s choice. He also spoke about how important his family is to him. Our episode continued with a game of ‘This or That’, where Kapil’s answers were both funny and insightful. We then visited Atal Ghat, where we discussed more about his life, upcoming projects, and experiences.
