Forget Gujaratis, anyone who loves Indian food loves dhoklas. The spongey Gujarati snack made with chickpea flour, tempered with mustard seeds and curry leaves, has many fans across India and the globe. Recently, an Italian vlogger prepared a “Chickpea Bread” for his followers and Indians were quick to point out that it was nothing but dhokla. Check it out.

Italian Vlogger Makes “Chickpea Bread”

Italian vlogger Angelo Coassin shared a reel to make Chickpea Bread. The vlogger, first tells his followers that if they have leftover chickpeas, then can prepare this dish. First, the vlogger adds chickpeas, an egg and some flour into a blender. He grinds it into a paste and pours it into a microwave bowl. Next, he microwaves the paste for 4 minutes. The bread is ready in a jiffy. He cuts the freshly baked bread into half and uses the pieces like burger buns.

He stuffs the chickpea bread with tomatoes, Italian prosciutto and some burrata cheese. He finishes off his easy-to-make burger with a dash of olive oil. In the comments section, Angelo Coassin mentioned that he always makes this bread when he doesn’t have the time to cook but still yearns for a good meal. He likes to add ingredients like fresh rocket, tomatoes, burrata, prosciutto and olive oil to his chickpea bread.

Indians School Him For Making Dhokla & Giving It A Fancy Name

Indians flooded the comments section of his post as they identified the “chickpea bread” as our beloved dhokla. “That’s dhokla brother,” commented a Netizen. Another person joked about Dhokla going to Italy. An Instagrammer corrected him by saying, “Excuse me, that’s Indian dhokla”. Many others were impressed by how little time you’d require to prepare this dhokla/ chickpea bread.

Many used the Italian chef’s signature phrases, “Mamma Mia” and “super sexy” and promised to try the dish. Well, looks like our beloved dhokla has been spun into “chickpea bread” in Italy. Nevertheless, we’re salivating for this Gujju dish in its most authentic form. What about you?
