She is extremely talented and bubbly as a person, so much so that her laugh is contagious. Vidya Balan met with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for an episode of Sunday Brunch. The conversations, laughs and gorging on food did not stop. One of their recurrent topics was Chembur, as she was brought up in this area of Mumbai.

Vidya Balan is a Chembur girl through and through. If you have watched the video linked above, you might know she loves Chembur to the core. Everything about this place in Mumbai is special to her. The food, the lanes, the people and more are dear and near to her. Well, why would it not be? She has spent 31 years of her life here! 

We learned that Chembur has produced many gems of Bollywood! Can you guess some of them? So, Vidya Balan told us Shilpa Shetty was her senior in school by a few years. Shilpa even taught her basketball! Malaika Arora would pass Vidya’s lane to go for French tuition, and people would wait for Malaika to cross the road. Life in Chembur, am I right?

This Sunday Brunch episode largely focused on Vidya Balan’s childhood memories and days, travel, filming projects, food and more. But she was also here to promote her latest film on the big screen after a long time. It’s been four years since she appeared on the big screen. Her film, Neeyat, a detective-thriller was well received by the audience. She told us that it feels so much better to catch a film in theatres after the pandemic.
