In the video, a clearly startled employee was confronted by the man, who pointed out that it was inappropriate for him to call his wife “beautiful”. The video was shared by @ArtOfDialogue_ on X and has amassed 5.8 million views and thousands of comments.

You can see three employees of the multinational fried chicken restaurant chain in Kansas City trying to calm the agitated man. On the other hand, the customer was trying to get their point across about how the unwanted compliment made his wife feel uncomfortable.

The man can be seen repeatedly asking, “Why would you say that?” He also said, “This is not your country, this is not India. This is the United States.” He is even seen asking his friend behind the camera if he is crazy for asking this question. Making his point, he said that it is unfair to his wife, who simply wants a sandwich, to be greeted by “creeps” calling her “beautiful”.

The internet was divided over whether the compliment crossed a boundary or was a light-hearted gesture. Some comments on the post called the man’s reaction exaggerated, while others said his response was natural.

“Wokeness normalises everything. Why do employees need to comment on someone’s looks? Unknown people complimenting me on my gold chain or watch is creepy as hell. Here it’s someone’s partner. Commenting or complimenting on a customer’s appearance is not professional,” one of the comments read.

“I’m here for the service, not compliments. Just call me Miss or Ma’am, not beautiful or sweetheart. The guy is doing a bit too much, maybe it’s not their first time and could be because she does not like it,” a netizen pointed out.

Another comment read, “He was simply protecting his wife. He wanted to let the guy know that he shouldn’t be disrespecting his wife when his wife is trying to get a sandwich, even though he was taking it a bit further than necessary.”

On the other hand, some netizens feel compliments are harmless. “I will never understand people like that. Someone calling his wife beautiful is a HUGE compliment,” one of the users commented on the post.
