The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority is constantly doing its best to ensure that people in the emirate get to eat healthily prepared food while complying with all the safety measures. For this purpose, they are quite strict about food establishments following their rules and regulations. However, recently, a supermarket was not complying with the health and safety measures by the authority. As a result, it was closed!

ADAFSA Shuts Down Mohammed Akter Supermarket

ADAFSA recently closed the Mohammed Akter Supermarket, which is located in the Musaffah Industrial Area. As revealed by the authority, the store was violating Law No. 2 of 2008. This is regarding the food safety regulation in Abu Dhabi, and it poses a significant risk to the public head. According to authority, the establishment had failed to take effective corrective measures and due to repeated violations, there were high-risk issues.

It’s worth mentioning that the supermarket was specifically cited for the presence of insects in the store. Not to mention, products were being displayed without proper food labelling, which resulted in temporary suspension of its operation. Moreover, five violations were already recorded against the supermarket. However, the administrative closure will continue to remain in place until the supermarket rectifies the issues and meets all the food safety standards. It can resume operations once all the violations have been addressed and there is safety in its practices.

Safety Protocol For Slaughterhouses

Not just the ADAFSA, but even the Abu Dhabi City Municipality is ensuring that all of protocol is being followed throughout the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Yes, this is specifically pertaining to slaughterhouses, and they will continue to remain open to serve customers. For the purpose of enhancing service and quality, improvements have been made across its facilities. Yes, these include the following: Abu Dhabi Port, Bani Yas Slaughterhouse, Al Shahama Slaughterhouse, and Al Wathba Slaughterhouse.

In fact, the authority has also mentioned that those who resort to slaughtering in the streets, public facilities, or homes can result in financial penalties, and immediate action will be taken against them, which includes the confiscation of the slaughtered animals.

So, with so many provisions in place to ensure the safety of food being consumed by the People, one certainly feels assured.
