The Ambubachi Mela is an annual celebration of the goddess Kamakhya's yearly menstrual cycle, during which the temple remains closed for three days. This year’s celebration concluded and the public darshan resumed on June 26 at 6 AM. Devotees from across India lined up to visit Kamakhya Temple.

Assam’s Kamakhya Temple reopened after a zealous celebration of the Ambubachi Mela on June 26. Thousands of devotees lined up outside the temple as public darshan resumed from 6 AM on Thursday. The temple was closed for three days to honour the yearly menstruation course of goddess Kamakhya.

Following the conclusion of Ambubachi Mela 2025, Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati reopened its doors for people on Thursday morning. According to Moneycontrol, public darshan resumed after the completion of Nivriti (closure period) early in the morning today.

Devotees and dignitaries lined up to seek Maa Kamakhya’s blessings. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and his wife were among the early morning devotees who offered prayers to the goddess. He said that he prayed for the nation’s development and a bright future.

Despite incessant rains and muddy grounds, Ambubachi Mela 2025 saw the crowd’s unwavering enthusiasm. The state authorities made sure that there was adequate water and food supply, mobile medical stations, sanitation units, and crowd management teams on the ground during the three-day festival that started on June 22.

All You Need To Know About Ambubachi Mela

Ambubachi Mela is celebrated every year at the revered Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam. The mela sees a unique amalgamation of tantric practices, tradition and faith. The temple, nestled atop the Nilachal Hills, is closed to the public for three days during the mela to symbolise the annual menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya.

After that, the Goddess is bathed and some sacred rituals are performed to ensure Maa Kamakhya is back to her original form. Following traditional Prabritti and Nivriti rituals, the doors of the temple are reopened for public darshan. Ambubachi Mela celebrates the divine feminine energy in its truest form.
