North Korea sealed its international borders after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Now, after nearly five years, they have finally decided to resume international tourism by the end of 2024. Tourists will be allowed to visit the city of Samjiyon by December 2024. The city is believed to be the birthplace of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

As per The Times of India report, Samjiyon is located near the Chinese border and has modern apartments, hotels, a ski resort, and various cultural, and commercial facilities. It is to be noted that international flights to and from North Korea resumed last year. So far, only a small group of Russian tourists have been allowed to visit the country for a private tour.
