The increase in tomato prices is literally creating chaos in the market. People are spending about ₹150 or even more just to purchase 1 kg of this tangy vegetable. Indians need tomatoes in most of their food to get that desired taste and flavours and the soaring prices are making it difficult for consumers. Owners of cafes, restaurants, and eateries are facing the most issues.

The only solution to limit the expenditure on tomatoes is by using less of them. Cooking most of the cuisines and even simple dishes require this vegetable and owners of eateries have no choice but to reduce the usage of tomatoes to balance the money spent and earned revenue. There are some restaurants and dhabas in Prayagraj where you won’t get tomato slices in salads like before, according to a report by The Times of India. These places are adding more other vegetables to the plate rather than adding tomatoes.

Many restaurants have taken the decision to reduce the usage of this vegetable as much as possible as they do not have any other option. These places cannot simply increase the prices on their menu all of a sudden and hence reducing the amount is the only solution here.

Store-Bought Puree Is An Alternative Used In Many Places

As prices are skyrocketing, eateries are using packaged puree available in markets. To control the spending on vegetables, they now have to rely on puree. Some restaurants are adding fresh tomatoes with this puree to prepare the dishes. But sadly, the packaged products do not add the desired taste to the food.

Owners are bleeding due to the spike in tomato prices. To manage the cost to some extent, many eateries are also very focused on the proper use of this vegetable. They are making sure that nothing gets wasted and also manage the usage properly without changing the taste of the dishes served.
