Data Reveals Travel Hike During Long Weekend

Scapia’s travel data shows a 75% increase in flight searches five weeks out, with a week-on-week doubling. This isn’t a holiday blip; the report reveals that Indians are swapping epic annual trips for smart and frequent escapes that blend leisure, culture, and wellness.

During the Good Friday long weekend, travel demand is reinforcing a broader shift where Indians are increasingly opting for long weekend trips across India. The 3-day break is emerging as a high-intent travel destination, with travellers planning earlier bookings. As per the travel report, the bookings picked up as early as late February, with flight searches rising nearly 75% above the weekday average almost five weeks ahead of departure. Train bookings followed a two-phase pattern – an initial spike in the 60-day booking window and a second, stronger surge in the past two weeks (~40% week-on-week growth). Even buses, typically last-minute, are seeing earlier traction, with bookings already up ~4× in the past two weeks.

Top Destinations During The Weekend

Additionally, the stays are seeing the biggest acceleration, with bookings doubling week-on-week through March and the highest volumes recorded in recent weeks. Search demand continues to rise, showcasing strong last-mile momentum heading into the weekend. Travellers favour short trips, which are in high demand across leisure and cultural destinations. The most popular flight destinations are Goa, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Varanasi, Jaipur, Andaman, and Srinagar, while train and bus routes highlight dense intercity and getaway corridors. Routes such as Delhi to Reasi also reflect travellers’ interest in new routes combining pilgrimage with experiences like the Chenab Bridge. 

Routes such as New Delhi to Rishikesh, New Delhi to Dharamshala, and Bangalore to Udupi indicate a growing preference for spiritual and wellness-led getaways. The presence of Delhi to Reasi further highlights how travellers are blending leisure with spiritual intent.
