Booking.com’s analysis reveals a notable shift in travel patterns, highlighting both traditional favourites and emerging hotspots. Here are the most-searched flight destinations by the people in India for the year 2024 and what they reveal about Indian travel trends.
Travel Trends 2024: Indians Searched For These Destinations
Domestic tourism saw remarkable growth, with Goa leading the charge as the most searched destination. It recorded a striking 200 per cent increase in flight searches compared to the previous year. Beyond the conventional metropolitan destinations, there was a notable trend towards cultural and spiritual exploration.
For instance, Amritsar had a 106 per cent surge in search interest. International travel preferences demonstrated Indian travellers’ expanding horizons. Traditional favourites like Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, and London maintained their appeal. Flight searches showed an impressive year-on-year growth of 90 to 150 per cent.
However, the most intriguing development was the emergence of unexpected destinations gaining popularity. Azerbaijan’s Shahdag topped the list of international accommodation searches, while destinations like Stepantsminda in Georgia and Tromso in Norway captured travellers’ imagination. They showed increases of 212 per cent and 185 per cent respectively.

In the domestic sphere, lesser-known locations like Perumbakkam, Pangala, and Tekkumuri gained traction, indicating a shift towards exploring India’s hidden gems. This trend aligns with a growing interest in immersive travel experiences.
This is evidenced by the popularity of cultural activities like the Old Delhi food and heritage walk and sustainable tourism options such as e-biking on Goa’s Divar Island.
