What Is Culinary Class Wars?

Culinary Class Wars is a popular South Korean show on Netflix. The first season of this show was released in September 2024, and the second season came out in December 2025 and concluded in January 2026. The concept of this show is really amazing. In this show, 100 chefs compete against each other for the winning prize of 300 million won.

In this show, there are 20 chefs under “White Spoon” and 80 in “Black Spoons”. But wait! What exactly are these two categories of spoons? The “White Spoons” are elite chefs, whereas the “Black Spoons” are those trying to prove their talent. Here, the chefs prepared different styles of cuisines; everything from fine dishes to street-style, making people curious to try them.

How Has This Cooking Influenced Travel & Food?

The show has made a strong impact on the food industry. What we found most surprising is that restaurants owned by contestants of Culinary Class Wars saw a big surge in demand. Bookings and waitlists jumped by an average of 303% within five weeks after the second season premiered. It has increased compared to the earlier five weeks, according to CatchTable reports.

Young audiences are clearly on top of this trend. Millennials and Gen Z are showing strong interest in exploring new cultures through food. Governments are also taking note of this shift. South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism now plans to include food tourism in its 2026 strategy.

Japan is seeing a similar rise in food-driven travel. Around 82% of tourists in 2024 said trying Japanese food was a key reason for their visit. At the same time, hotels are stepping up by encouraging guests to explore local food spots.
