China Unveils World’s Fastest Train With Top Speed Of 450 Km/h

China has set yet another benchmark in high-speed rail technology. The country recently started pre-service trials for the CR450, touted to be the fastest train in the world. The cutting-edge train marks a significant milestone in high-speed rail technology and promises to drastically reduce travel times while setting a new benchmark for rail transport globally.

China Tests World’s Fastest Train

According to the Economic Times, China recently ran pre-service trials for the CR450, the world’s fastest train. The tests took place on the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway line on October 21, and the train reached a top speed of 450 km/h during the trial run.

As per media reports, the CR450 was able to accelerate from zero to 350 km/h in just 4 minutes 40 seconds. This is an astonishing 100 seconds faster than the CR400 Fuxing. This train is expected to begin commercial service in 2026–marking a major milestone in railway infrastructure worldwide. The Chinese Embassy in US took to their official X (formerly Twitter) account to share a video of the test run of the world’s fastest train.

All You Need To Know About This Bullet Train

China first unveiled the CR450’s prototype, the world’s fastest train, in November 2024. This bullet train has been designed to reach speeds of up to 400 km/h. Since its launch, the train has undergone rigorous testing across multiple performance metrics, the Economic Times reported.

The world’s fastest train has been developed by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) subsidiaries. Chinese researchers and engineers have been working for almost five years to refine the train’s design. To help it achieve exceptional speed, the train’s nose cone has been lengthened from 12.5 metres to 15 metres. The train has fully enclosed bogies and aerodynamic lower skirt panels that cut air resistance by 22%. It’s also 20 cm shorter and 55 tons lighter than previous CR450 models, improving both acceleration and energy efficiency.
