Eating out while travelling abroad often feels like an adventure—and sometimes, a shock. That’s exactly what happened to a Mumbai-based artist during her trip to Italy. Mumbai-based artist Vagmita Singh (@thatindianchick_) is currently on a trip to Italy, where she was left shocked after a restaurant charged her extra for cutlery. She shared a hilarious reaction video on her social media handle with the caption, “Bhai yeh toh syllabus mein tha hi nahi.” The video begins with her saying, “Italy aake pata chal raha hai ki yahan restaurant mein khana khana ek imtehaan se kam nahi hai.”

She continued, “Sabse pehli baat toh yeh hai ki restaurant mein aapse cutlery ke paise liye jaate hain.” The artist added that she had no idea about this and asked the staff what exactly ‘Coperto’ meant after she received the final bill, to which the staff, visibly annoyed, replied that Coperto means a plate, and since she was eating on one, she had to pay for it.

Vagmita further shared how even a small request — whether it was for mixing rum with hot water or asking for a drink without ice — was met with a frustrated “I have to check.”

Internet Reacts To Her Italian Dining Shock

The reaction of the India-based tourist quickly went viral across the internet. While many shared they already knew about the Coperto charges from personal experiences, others pointed out how dining abroad is a completely different experience compared to India.

One user wrote, “Coperto is quite common. And they are formal and professional. One mixes water with the drink; it’s sparkling water. Please research the culture of the country before you apply for your visa.”

Another user added, “The kind of hospitality we get in India can’t be found anywhere.”

One netizen said, “But who are they checking it with?”

One Instagrammer also wrote, “Been there. Experienced it. No country is better than India when it comes to convenience.”
