Travel to Mussoorie is going to get a lot smoother, especially for Delhiites. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, which was recently inaugurated, may soon be extended to Mussoorie to ease congestion in Dehradun. Here’s what you need to know about this much-anticipated project for travellers!
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway May Extend To Mussoorie
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the six-lane Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The project, built at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore, reduces travel time from over 6 hours to around 2.5 to 3 hours. This means travel is set to become much easier for people planning weekend trips to Dehradun and nearby hill stations like Mussoorie. But according to The Times of India, authorities are now planning to extend this expressway to Mussoorie.
The decision aims to ease congestion in the Uttarakhand capital, Dehradun. Reportedly, the 51 km six-lane road from Saharanpur Bypass to Haridwar is expected to be inaugurated in June. This clearly shows steady progress on key corridors. The extension means travellers will be able to continue their journey to Mussoorie on the same expressway.

Extension To Boost Tourism & Reduce Traffic
The decision to extend the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will offer high-speed connectivity from Delhi. It will reduce travel time further and ease traffic on Dehradun’s roads. It will also help boost tourism and attract more hill station lovers to Mussoorie. This will support local businesses as well. This update has already excited many people who often travel to Mussoorie. The place is known for its stunning Himalayan views, colonial-era charm, and pleasant climate. Plus, it also has some amazing cafes where you can enjoy lip-smacking food!
You should know that the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway also has a 12 km wildlife corridor. It allows wild animals to cross the forest beneath the elevated structure with ease. The expressway was designed in a way that commuters benefit without disturbing the nearby Rajaji Tiger Reserve. In our opinion, this expressway is a great example of coexistence.
