Panic gripped passengers on Monday when a fire suddenly erupted on a New Jersey commuter train in the US. The incident sent people panicking and running to escape from the blaze. Reportedly, nine people have been hospitalised due to asphyxiation. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Scary videos have emerged on social media showing passengers running and panicking after a sudden fire broke out on a commuter train in NYC. As per a report by The Times of India, the blaze occurred around 6:15 am on an eastbound Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) train at Newport Station in Jersey City, New Jersey.
A video taken by a passenger shows how the smoke is slowly filling up the train compartment. They can also be heard saying, “Open the door!” and “easy, easy,” as they get off the train. The video also captures flames emerging from the train as panic grips passengers.

9 Commuters Rushed To Hospital
As per the same report by TOI, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated. 13 people were given first aid at the scene, while nine of them were taken to the hospital due to sudden asphyxiation from smoke inhalation. The train authorities also took to X and apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
The incident on Monday not only caused panic among daily commuters but also led to a major disruption. Multiple PATH lines between New York and New Jersey were suspended temporarily as emergency services rushed to the scene. It should also be noted that PATH is a rapid transit system that operates in the Northeastern United States. It connects cities in Northeastern New Jersey, including Newark, Harrison, Jersey City and Hoboken, with Manhattan in New York City. The train carries over one lakh passengers every day.

The cause of the fire on the New York City train is currently under investigation. The authorities are yet to release an official statement on what may have triggered the incident.
