This Year’s Ganesh Chaturthi Will Last 12 Days
Every year, Ganesh Chaturthi marks the beginning of something new and brings energetic festive vibes. The festival begins on Shukla Paksha Chaturthi, the fourth day of the waxing phase of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. This year, the festival will begin on September 14, 2026. Traditionally, it continues until Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on the 14th day of the same lunar fortnight.
But this year, things are a little different. Ganesh Chaturthi follows the Hindu lunar calendar, tithi and local traditions, and this year brings a rare alignment of lunar tithis. Due to this alignment, the festival will be celebrated for 12 days in some parts of India. This rare occurrence was last seen in 2017.

No Fixed Nine-Year Cycle
Though this rare lunar alignment has happened after nine years, it does not follow a fixed cycle. It depends on the tithi in the Hindu Panchang and how the lunar and solar calendars line up. This year, we’re excited to see how people celebrate this festival for two extra days.
Ganesh Chaturthi is a very special festival in India, and the energy during these celebrations is completely different. You can hear the beats of dhols, people chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and everyone enjoying different varieties of modaks.
