India Ranks As The Second Loneliest Country

As per the report by JB.com, Turkey is at the top of the list, followed by India and Brazil. The results are based on a composite “loneliness score” that factors in such aspects as isolation, sadness, and household patterns. India scored 89 on the loneliness index, ranking second just after Turkey, which has a score of 100. The study found that 58% of Indians feel lonely, while 34% reported experiencing isolation.

The study also found that 37% of Indians often experience sadness, the highest among the top five countries ranked, indicating deeper emotional distress. What points out is that the report notes that loneliness in India continues to exist despite comparatively strong family structures. Only 3.7% of Indian families are single-person homes, and the average household size is over four members. The study observes that loneliness in India is emotional rather than physical.

Turkey Stands At The Top Loneliest Country

As per the study, Turkey ranked as the loneliest country globally, with 61% of the citizens reporting feeling alone and 45% saying they feel isolated. Around 31% of the participants in Turkey expressed daily sadness, while one in five households consists of a single person. The study notes that loneliness in Turkey is severe even without extreme living-alone trends, leading again to emotional disconnection.

After Turkey and India, Brazil ranked third with a loneliness score of 78, where 53% of individuals said they feel lonely and 43% report isolation. Additionally, Brazil also recorded higher life fulfilment among the top five, indicating that loneliness and overall happiness can coexist.

South Africa followed in fourth place, with 65% reporting loneliness, and South Korea in fifth place, with the highest share of single-person households, 36.1% and 57% reporting loneliness.

On the other hand, Uzbekistan and the Netherlands were identified as the least lonely countries, with lower levels of isolation and higher happiness scores.
