Thailand Launches Long-Term Visa For Digital Nomads And Remote Workers; Here’s How It Works

Destination Thailand Visa

For many years, Thailand has been one of the best destinations for Indian travellers looking for a vacation. It has amazing nightlife, food, beautiful beaches, and so much more. But now, Thailand has introduced a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) designed for remote workers and digital nomads that lets them stay in the country for five years. Here’s how it works.

Destination Thailand Visa For Indian Travellers

Thailand has rolled out a long-term visa to attract digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, and other eligible foreigners, including Indians, to stay in the country for five years. Its new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) has been launched as a multiple-entry visa to position the nation as a hub for remote work, cultural tourism, and long-stay travel.

According to NDTV, unlike a standard tourist visa, the DTV is meant for visitors looking to spend an extended period in Thailand while also working remotely for overseas employers or participating in training programmes, cultural activities, or wellness experiences. The DTV remains valid for five years. This means travellers can comfortably stay in Thailand and treat it like a second home.

Who Can Apply For DTV?

This DTV allows travellers to stay in Thailand for up to 180 days per entry. The stay can also be extended by another 180 days, which means one visit can easily last nearly a year. Plus, travellers can leave and re-enter Thailand several times during the five-year period.

Now, let’s talk about who can apply for this visa. According to NDTV, Thailand has opened the DTV to citizens of eligible countries, including India. This programme is meant for:

  • Digital nomads and remote workers
  • Freelancers serving overseas clients
  • Entrepreneurs running foreign businesses
  • Wellness and medical tourists
  • Participants in long-term courses or training programmes
  • Individuals involved in Thai cultural activities

To apply for the DTV, applicants will need to show at least 500,000 Thai Baht (around ₹14-15 lakh) in liquid assets. Authorities may ask for a passport with at least six months’ validity, bank statements, employment contracts, remote work documents, health insurance papers, proof of income, and other documents.

The process to apply for the visa is quite easy. Applications can be submitted through Thailand’s e-visa programme by paying a visa fee of around ₹25,000 for Indian applicants, attending a document verification appointment if required, and then waiting for processing.
