The Harvest Moon is a special full moon night that occurs closest to the September equinox. It rises soon after sunset and stays visible at almost the same time for a few nights in a row. It is believed that in earlier times, when there were no watches or calendars, Native Americans and farmers used this bright moonlight to follow the changing seasons and to work longer hours in the fields, harvesting crops like corn, beans, and more.

The last Harvest Moon appeared in 2020, and this year, it will rise on October 6 and will be fully visible at 03:48 GMT on October 7. After this year’s Harvest Moon, the next one will rise in 2028, reported Moneycontrol. Compared to last month’s full moon, this year’s Harvest Moon is 14 hours and 34 minutes closer to the September equinox. It is rare and happens only in few times in decades.

Where To Watch Harvest Moon In India?

In India, you can witness the Harvest Moon as it will rise close to sunset. To watch it, look toward the eastern horizon just after dusk as it will rise at almost the same time for several nights. Photographers can take this as a chance to capture the beautiful image of the moon, whereas people who love watching the moon at night can have a moment of peace watching this beautiful sight.

According to Moneycontrol, the interesting part is that at this time, the moon rises earlier than it usually does. For example, in northern cities like Boston, the moon will rise about 24 minutes earlier each night, while in southern places, the gap will be around 37 minutes. In Edmonton, Canada, the difference will be only 11 minutes. This happens because the moon’s path across the sky is at a shallow angle near the horizon.
