A Türkiye tourist boat fire near the popular coastal resort of Fethiye forced 115 passengers and crew to leave the vessel on Thursday. Several passengers, including children, entered the water wearing life jackets as flames spread across the boat.
Boat Catches Fire Near Fethiye
The incident involved the “Toys Boat”, which operates entertainment trips for children. Footage from the scene showed flames engulfing parts of the vessel, with thick smoke rising above the water.
Passengers and crew were seen entering the sea as they attempted to move away from the burning boat.
Türkiye’s maritime authorities later confirmed that all 115 passengers and crew members were safely brought ashore. The coastguard carried out most of the rescue operation.

11 People Taken To Hospital
Eleven people were taken to the hospital after experiencing smoke inhalation. Authorities said none of them was in serious condition.
Several children were also taken for precautionary medical checks following the evacuation.
The Turkish coastguard separately told AFP that 107 people had been evacuated from the vessel. Authorities had not immediately clarified the reason for the difference in numbers.

Cause Of Fire Yet To Be Confirmed
The cause of the incident was not immediately known. Maritime authorities are expected to assess the vessel and circumstances surrounding the incident as part of the follow-up investigation.
For travellers visiting Fethiye and other popular coastal destinations in Türkiye, the incident has also highlighted the importance of following crew instructions and wearing safety equipment during boat excursions.
