Tourist Helicopter Crashes In New York City
Six people were killed after a helicopter believed to be carrying a family of tourists from Spain crashed into the Hudson River on Thursday afternoon.

What started as a fun tourist excursion to enjoy New York City from a birds-eye view turned into a tragic accident for a family from Spain. According to ABC News, a tourist chartered helicopter, which was carrying a pilot, two adults, and three children, crashed and fell into the Hudson River by Lower Manhattan in New York City. The family of five was from Barcelona, Spain. The kids were aged 4, 5, and 11.
The crash occurred on April 10 around 3:20 PM, near Lower Manhattan, just over 15 minutes after departing from Wall St. Heliport. Distressing visuals surfacing on social media show the helicopter going out of control, spinning, and plunging into New York City’s Hudson River without a tail rotor or a main rotor blade. The chopper hit the water inverted.

All 6 Onboard Killed
The helicopter crash in New York City resulted in the death of all six people on board. Emergency and police boats rushed to the site of the accident. Pictures and video show the aircraft’s landing gear poking above the river’s surface as the emergency teams circled the crash site. Divers helped remove the victims from the water, four of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were taken to the nearby hospital and were declared dead.

As per reports, the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will now investigate the incident. It is to be noted that this isn’t the first time that New York City has witnessed a helicopter crash tragedy. The airspace around Manhattan is crowded with helicopters and, as per reports, at least 32 people have died in helicopter crashes in the city since 1977.
