We are excited about Twinkle’s new book. Not just the interesting storyline and characters, another thing we are excited about is a recipe from her book. The protagonist makes khichda in the story and this dish is what we are about to learn today.
A snippet of the book shows how the protagonist cooks khichda and adds some ingredients to get the desired flavours just like her Abba made at home. From lemon juice to broken wheat, she uses different ingredients for it.

Here’s How You Can Make This Special Khichda Recipe At Home
Ingredients:
- 100 gm Toor Daal
- 100 gm Yellow Moong Dal
- 100 gm Red Masoor Dal
- 100 gm Rice
- 100 gm Chana Dal
- 100 gm Chowli Dal
- 100 gm White Vatana
- 250 gm Wheat
- 3 kilo Mutton
- 4 Onions
- 3 Tomatoes
- 2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 2 tsp Dhaniya Powder
- 2 tsp Jeera Powder
- 3 tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
- Salt
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Lal Mirch Powder
- 2 tbsp Ghee
Method:
- Start by washing rice, red masoor dal, toor dal, and yellow moong dal.
- Take a pan, add water to it, and boil the rice and dal in it.
- After some time, increase the flame of the gas and add chowli dal, wheat, chana dal, and white vatana. Cook until it whistles.
- Once everything is boiled well, take a hand blender and blend everything well.
- Take a cooker and add some oil. Add chopped onions and cook them till they are brown.
- Next, add mutton, ginger-garlic paste, water, and the spices. Cook everything till you get 5 whistles.
- Then add the blended dal and rice to the cooked mutton and simmer everything for about 2 hours.
- Once the ingredients have boiled well and are loaded with desi flavours, open the lid of the cooker and garam masala, Kashmiri red chilli powder, and ghee.
- Lastly, add some lemon juice and fried onions, and relish it hot.
