UAE Just Unveiled Its Dirham Symbol For Both Physical & Digital Forms!

We all know that the currency for the UAE is Dirhams, which is denoted by AED. And now, the Central Bank of the UAE has gone ahead and introduced a new symbol for the national currency! Yes, this currency symbol in its physical and digital form was introduced on Thursday, March 27, and we are here to tell you about this massive development coming from the country.

CBUAE Introduces New Symbol For Dirham

The Central Bank of the UAE has introduced a new symbol for the national currency. The symbol is derived from the English name of Dirham, and it serves as an international symbol that represents the nation’s currency. It includes two horizontal lines that embody the stability of the UAE Dirham. Not to mention, it also draws inspiration from the UAE flag in order to enhance financial and monetary stability.

Coming to the digital Dirham symbol, it features a circle that surrounds a physical currency symbol. It uses the colours of the UAE flag in order to reflect the pride and national identity. The choice of the symbol shows the reach of the national currency. As mentioned in a report by Khaleej Times, it shows the openness to a more prosperous future and commitment towards developing an innovative local financial ecosystem. The symbol is rooted in the national identity, and the concept reimagines the lines of the flag. The symbol shows these two lines are running parallel across the letter ‘D,’ which stands for Dirham.

A Symbol Introduced For Digital Form

Not to mention, the pointed curves are inspired by classical Arabic calligraphy. Yes, scripts like Thuluth and Diwani often featured such sharp, sweeping endings that expressed both grace and authority. In the digital symbol, the design includes colours that represent the national flag. Ensuring recognition and dynamic presence, the encirclement of the ‘D’ symbol has been carefully crafted, symbolising a digital token.

As it happens, there are several advantages of the digital Dirham. It facilitates tokenisation, thereby enhancing financial inclusion and efficiency. Not to mention, it can be used in smart contracts to program and execute complex transactions automatically. In fact, the CBUAE has developed an integrated and secure platform to issue, circulate, and use a Digital Dirham. Yes, this includes a Digital Dirham Wallet. It has been designed to make the use and management of both individuals and businesses easier.

So, what do you think about the new symbol? It does look quite fantastic, doesn’t it?
