Announced at the Creators HQ in Emirates Towers, Dubai, the UAE Media Council revealed this updated strategy on Thursday. Key figures in the media game, Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi and Maitha Al Suwaidi, led the press conference, signalling a serious shift in how the country treats media development.

Building A Future-Ready Media World For Content Creators

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, called the new media system a “transformational leap”. It echoes the leadership’s vision for a sleek, modern media machine. And the numbers back the ambition.

To start with, this is the first media law revamp in over 40 years. The goal is to complete the rework to match the rapid evolution of content creation, artificial intelligence, streaming platforms, and more.

This law doesn’t just set up a shiny new framework; it puts storytelling, creativity, and innovation right in the driver’s seat.

What’s In It for Creators?

Here’s the bit that got everyone buzzing about a three-year exemption on media service fees. For content creators, writers, and local producers, this is a game-changing event. The exemption supports grassroots creativity, fuels local storytelling, and eliminates cost as a barrier to entry.

Maitha Al Suwaidi, CEO of Strategy and Media Policies, explained that this isn’t your average policy update. The Council’s roadmap includes modern policies that go beyond just compliance, they’re designed to make the UAE a global media powerhouse.

She introduced an upcoming age rating system to help protect younger audiences from inappropriate digital content. There’s a chance of some changes or updates in the licensing policy for digital news platforms to verify sources, promote responsible journalism, and elevate the trustworthiness of online media.

Cleaning Up Social Media Ads

In a win for consumers and creators alike, a new law will regulate social media advertising by individuals. It aims to restore public trust and improve the quality of content flooding our feeds. Goodbye shady sponsorships, hello transparency.

So if you’ve got a camera, a cause, or a killer story to tell, now’s the time. The playing field just got a whole lot friendlier.
