With the Eid al-Adha holiday over, chances are that you’re already getting midweek blues and thinking about when the next UAE public holiday will begin. So, now that you have clicked on this article, we are here to tell you exactly that.
When Is The Next Public Holiday In The UAE?
The Islamic New Year or the Hijri new year might either fall on June 16th or 17th. As you already know, it is going to be subject to moon sighting. So the official date will be confirmed by the authorities in the UAE, after reaching closer to the time, as mentioned by the Gulf News. For those who are wondering, the Hijri New Year marks the migration or the Hijrah of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE. It is the founding movement of the Islamic lunar calendar, and is observed more quietly than Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Holidays Depend On Moon Sighting
Talking about holidays to look forward to, there are some more breaks that people in the UAE would want to look forward to. The first one in line is Prophet’s Birthday, which is expected to fall on August 25th, Tuesday. This happens on the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal, and obviously, it is also subject to moon sighting. If this happens mid-week, then the transfer rule could extend this into a longer break.
The next holiday is the UAE National Day or Eid Al Etihad, which happens on December 2nd and 3rd. This time it’s on Wednesday and Thursday, so with Friday to Saturday weekend following up, employees are in for a four-day break.

The best way to use the annual leave is through strategic planning around public holidays. This can increase your total holidays across the year. For this, all you need to do is watch for holidays when the transfer rule applies. After all, these offer the best chance to make it a long weekend with minimum use of leaves.
For those who are wondering, under Article 2 of the cabinet resolution, most of the holidays, which exclude Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr holidays, might be shifted to the start or end of the week by cabinet decision. And under Article 3, if there’s a holiday that falls on a weekend or overlaps with another public holiday, it cannot be carried forward.
So, be on the lookout for the news of moon sighting and announcement for the next public holiday, because it is around the corner
