UAE citizens can now renew their Emirates ID cards 12 months before they expire. This was announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security. This change came into effect on July 14th, and here’s all you need to know about the development relating to Emirates ID.

UAE Citizens Can Renew Emirates ID 12 Months Before Expiry

This change came into effect on July 14th after the previously early renewal window was doubled from the previous six months to 12. ICP took this decision to adopt an innovative and proactive digital solution. It reinforces the nation’s leadership when it comes to meeting the evolving expectations of citizens. This initiative also complements the earlier decision by the ICP, which allows UAE nationals to renew their passports up to one year before they expire.

Making The Process More Seamless

As revealed by the Gulf News, in cases where the expiry dates coincide, citizens can renew both their passport and Emirates ID in a single integrated transaction. This, as a result, would reduce time and effort. Not to mention, it would also expand the number of beneficiaries who will be able to take advantage of the combined renewal service.

With the extension of the Emirates ID renewal period from the previous six months to 12 months, UAE leadership shows its proactiveness towards delivering government services. It also shows the commitment of ICP towards responding to the citizens’ expectations.

A Streamlined System For UAE’s ID, Replacement And Renewal

This comes months after a major update happened for Emirates ID. A streamlined system for UAE’s ID, replacement and renewal was launched. This allowed citizens to complete the process in a single step rather than following multiple procedures. So, under the new system, which was launched last year, the validity of the renewed ID will be automatically determined on the basis of the applicant’s age. This means citizens who are aged 21 and above will receive their IDs that will be valid for 10 years, while those under the age of 21 will receive IDs that are valid for five years.

With the single-step renewal and replacement system live across all the ICP service channels, people are in for faster and more efficient ID management of Emiratis across the nation.
