UP Government Plants 36 Crore Saplings In Just 2 Days And Sets A Record!

The number of plants and the level of carbon dioxide emission are related to each other. Encouraging the plantation of trees can help reduce carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. In India, several environmentalists are fighting against tree cutting and planting saplings to increase greenery. Similarly, the Uttar Pradesh government launched a Tree Plantation Campaign. In fact, they have made a record of planting 36 crore saplings in just 2 days!

By facilitating the planting of more than 36 crore saplings in the state over the course of two days—approximately 5.95 crore saplings on Tuesday in honour of Independence Day and 30,21,51,570 saplings on July 22, the first day of the Tree Plantation Campaign-2023—the Uttar Pradesh government arguably broke some records.

A government spokesperson said that on July 22, when seedlings were planted along the banks of the Ganga in Bijnor and Muzaffarnagar, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially inaugurated the Tree Plantation Campaign-2023. On July 4th, the Chief Minister planted trees at Amrit Vatika, next to Jhulelal Vatika. In total, 5,94,47,384 saplings were planted in UP as of August 15 at 5:30 pm.

According to the most recent Forest Survey of India, there has been a 9.23 per cent growth in green cover in Uttar Pradesh during the past six years. The state government released a press release that included specifics about the report’s conclusions.

According to the statement, the administration had already broken a record by planning to plant 136.98 crore saplings in the state between 2017–18 and 2022–23. This number comprises the 49.88 billion saplings planted by the forest department and the 82.1 billion saplings planted by other state departments.

The report further stated that the number of trees and forests in Uttar Pradesh has significantly increased. The total area of the forest has grown by 417 square kilometres, but the area covered by trees has grown by 377 square kilometres. The state’s overall green space has grown by 794 square kilometres in total.
