Uttarakhand: Bus, With At Least 40 Passengers, Falls Into Gorge In Pauri-Almora Border; 20 Reported Dead So Far

A bus, travelling from Garhwal to Kumaon, in Uttarakhand fell into a deep gorge in Almora on Monday morning. So far, 20 people have been reported dead in this accident and many are severely injured. The bus was carrying at least 40 people. As per the latest update, a rescue operation was launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

A Garwal Motors Users’ bus fell into a 200-metre-deep gorge in Uttarakhand on Monday morning. According to Hindustan Times, the accident took place at the Pauri-Almora border and 20 passengers have been reported dead by the Almora District Disaster Control Room. The bus had at least 40 passengers on board at the time of the accident. The accident took place at around 9 AM on Monday morning and was reported by passengers who had fallen from the bus during the incident.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his grief over the unfortunate accident and also share the plan of action. He said, “The local administration and SDRF teams at the accident site are working rapidly to evacuate the injured and take them to the nearest health centre for treatment. Instructions have also been given to airlift seriously injured passengers if required.”

Rescue Operation Launched By SDRF

As per the latest update, three SDRF teams were dispatched to launch rescue operations at the accident site. The Uttarakhand police is also helping them to carry out search and rescue operations to save passengers from the bus accident. According to Hindustan Times, the injured are being rushed to the nearby hospital for medical assistance.
