Among the much-awaited railway projects nationwide is the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag New BG Rail Line project. Known as India’s longest railway tunnel, this significant Uttarakhand project is almost nearly completed. Construction Of India’s Longest Railway Tunnel Nears Completion

Taking to the X platform, the Ministry of Railways (@RailMinIndia) shared images of the under-construction rail line project.

Indians have been waiting for the grand record-breaking railway tunnel and recent updates state that the construction process by Indian Railways is rushing towards its end. Getting developed in Uttarakhand, this key rail route connecting Rishikesh and Karnaprayag will play a significant role in travelling to Chardham.

India’s longest railway tunnel project will be 125.20 km long and will feature a total of 17 tunnels. According to a report by News18, 105 km of this railway track will pass through tunnels, making it the longest railway tunnel in our nation. With enhanced rail connectivity and seamless travel experiences, pilgrims heading to Chardham will travel with ease due to these newly constructed tunnels in Uttarakhand.

This new rail project will link all 12 stations on this track. Also, 35 bridges will be built to cross the mountain terrains. This route will feature the longest tunnel measuring 15.1 km. Indian Railways will develop it between Devprayag and Lachmoli. To construct the entire project, many areas have been dug and transformed. The assigned teams use advanced technology to reduce the effects on the environment during this process.

The New Line Will Cut Down Travel Time

This pivotal railway project will decrease the overall time taken to travel between Rishikesh and Karnaprayag. Once completed and inaugurated, travellers can conveniently complete their journeys between these two scenic destinations in Uttarakhand in just two hours.

Right now, the road trip between Rishikesh and Karnaprayag takes around seven hours. In addition to cutting down the journey by five hours, it will save fuel and money too.
