India is in the midst of a deadly second wave. With the visuals of so many families suffering across the country, people are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that they stay healthy. And while many home remedies to boost immunity and fight the virus had gone viral since last year, one that has significantly gained momentum is the nose steam. There have been videos on WhatsApp and other social media channels of doctors explaining the benefit of the nose steam. In a bid to fight the deadly pandemic, a man from the Bazpur area in Uttarakhand has introduced ‘Bhaap Ka Langar’, a community facility for steaming to help people fight the virus amid the surge in infections.

Till the majority of the population in our country is vaccinated, it can be a challenge to fight the virus. And knowing that our country is struggling with vaccine and oxygen shortage, people are looking at other ways to check the virus. Mahipal Singh Yadav, a farmer and social activist set up the community steam facility that will allow people to take steam free of cost.

Bhaap Ka Langar With 200 Liters Capacity Barrel
The farmer calls his facility ‘Bhaap Ka Langar’ where he has set up 200 liters capacity barrel, an oven, and an LPG gas cylinder. He boils the water to generate the steam which is then let out through a plastic pipe for people to inhale. He is providing this service for two hours every morning and evening. He set the facility up for daily wagers and other factory labourers who can take the steam on their way to work and on their way back home.

Steaming Can Ease Respiratory Problems Like Stuffy Nose
But does steaming really help with fighting the virus? The answer is, steaming is useful to relieve congestion in the upper respiratory tract. However, it does not help with pneumonia or treat a lung infection. Steaming can ease respiratory problems like stuffy nose and common cold in COVID patients.

If i got covid.. I would do steam inhalation.. gargle with salt water.. rest… eat herbs & drink lots of kaada. Think positive thoughts & be happy that while I didn’t have covid I LIVED. & if I die of covid, well I’m happy I LIVED FREELY & was not stuck in a cage for a year.

Word of caution: Steaming can cause scalding of skin and airways if done improperly. Also, experts say that it is best done in isolation else it can result in further spread of infection. So, even if you are trying to help your community like this UP man, get your facts checked first.
