Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Janaktal trek in Uttarakhand, which is to become the second-highest trekking trail in the world. The event will take place during his Mukhba visit, the winter seat of the Gangotri deity on February 27, 2025.

The Janaktal and Muling-La Pass treks closed ever since the 1962 India-China war, will reopen. The treks pass through the scenic Jadung and Neelapani valleys of the Uttarkashi district, regions that were turned into defence camps during the war. The reopening will help increase tourism and give adventure sports enthusiasts access to these unspoiled landscapes.
