Fresh landslides on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road brought traffic to a standstill in the valley, leaving tourists and commuters stuck for hours. The situation has been worsened by continuous rain in Uttarakhand, with a long queue of vehicles building up along the route.

According to NDTV, on Wednesday, traffic on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road was severely affected on both sides of the landslide-hit stretch near Pani Wala Bend, with vehicles backed up for as long as 10 kilometres.
As per the Times of India report, the Public Works Department (PWD) carried out work on the hillside late Tuesday night to widen the road. After the landslide blocked the route, stone paving was done to help restore traffic movement.
The landslide occurred around 9 AM near Pani Wala Bend, bringing fresh mud onto the road. Although a JCB was deployed to clear the debris, the sticky mud caused several vehicles to get stuck, further worsening the traffic situation, according to PWD officials.
The traffic jam soon stretched 2-3 km on either side of the affected stretch, with the congestion extending from the Eco Barrier at Kolhukhet to Kuthalgate. Commuters reported spending hours on the road, with one traveller saying it took over two hours to cover the stretch from the Eco Barrier to the damaged section.

Heavy Rains & Tourist Rush Add To Mussoorie’s Woes
To ease the congestion, traffic on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road was gradually diverted towards the Kimadi route, while the movement of heavy vehicles was restricted. The road had already been damaged by heavy rains last month, leading to continued traffic disruptions in the area.
TOI reported that the Mussoorie Hotel Association also submitted a memorandum to the administration, highlighting the poor condition of the road and the difficulties faced by travellers.
