In a tragic incident reported recently, a group of about 40 workers got trapped inside the under-construction tunnel on the Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi. The tunnel collapsed all of a sudden and it was on November 12 when these 40 people got stuck inside the collapsed area of the tunnel in Uttarakhand. The rescue team started operations to save everyone stranded inside and established contact with them as well.

40 Workers Got Trapped Inside A Collapsed Part Of A Tunnel In Uttarkashi

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, Prachi J (@jhaprachi1994) shared some updates about the workers and the rescue operations for them.

A construction process was going on in a part of the tunnel on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway. It collapsed because of a landslide and the workers were left stuck and stranded in the accident spot. Almost 50 metres of the tunnel collapsed due to the natural calamity in Uttarkashi. It collapsed from Silkyara to Dandalgaon on the National Highway.

All India Radio News (@airnewsalerts) shared some glimpses of the rescue team undergoing operations to help the workers inside.

Major operations are conducted to save each and every person trapped inside the collapsed part of the tunnel in Uttarkashi. The workers experienced a life-threatening incident due to the landslide but the good news is that the rescuers managed to establish communication with the workers. Silkyara Control Room shared some updates about the operations. They communicated with the workers with the help of walkie-talkies. The update is that all are safe. Also, the concerned authorities are providing food to the trapped workers using the pipe, according to a report by the Indian Express.

Teams of police officials, the State Disaster Response Force, the National Disaster Response Force, and the local administration rushed to the accident spot and started working on rescuing the people right after they got to know about the situation on the collapsed tunnel. Along with providing food, workers are also getting oxygen with the help of pipes. In a conversation with the Indian Express, DRF Inspector Jagdamba Bijalwan shared that the situation is under control and not life-threatening at the moment. The teams are putting all their efforts into the operations.

What Are The Recent Updates?

Oxomiya Jiyori 🇮🇳 (@SouleFacts) shared some updates on the X (formerly Twitter) platform.

The major operations to save and rescue the 40 workers includes huge machinery to get rid of all the debris collected during the landslide in Uttarkashi. From using JCB to the Poclain machine, the teams are doing everything to save them. They have constructed a passage so that they can enter inside and reach the place where the workers are trapped. It is at a distance of about 60 metres.

The workers inside the Uttarkashi tunnel are from different parts of India. 15 of them are from Jharkhand, according to a report by News18. 8 came from Uttar Pradesh. Odisha is home to 2 workers and 3 are from West Bengal. 4 workers came from Bihar. 2 workers are from Himachal Pradesh and 2 are from Uttarakhand.
