Similar Initiative Implemented On Shatabdi Trains
Till now, one-litre water bottles were given to passengers on Vande Bharat trains. However, since Vande Bharat travel short distances instead of long distances like Rajdhani trains, the Railways changed the restrictions and chose to include half-litre bottles on trains. A similar initiative was taken even on Shatabdi trains where instead of the standard one-litre bottles, passengers were given 500 ml Rail Neer bottles. Indian Railways gives limited water to passengers on trains with a maximum run time of 8.5 hours. This is instead of 1-litre water bottles for passengers travelling for over five hours on Shatabdi trains.
To prevent water wastage, Central Railways uses one crore litre of recycled water every day for coach and platform cleaning through 32 recycling plants. According to a TOI report, Central Railway has rainwater harvesting units at 158 units. Moreover, there are three automatic coach-washing plants that have helped in water conservation. Central Railways also planted five lakh trees across various locations to restore the ecosystem.
Well, what do you think about the water conservation and environment conservation efforts by the Indian Railways?
